Running cost comparison - ISG cold gluing versus wire-stitching

The cost of ISG cold-glue binding depends on the number of sheets in the booklet and the booklet's spine length.

The cost of wire does not vary much between a thin and a thick booklet but may be less than in the table below if sourced from a local wire supplier.

The table below gives an approximate cost comparison cold gluing versus wire stitching for A4 (8½" x 11") and A5 (5½" x 8½") booklets (both in portrait format) and assumes use of PAFRA cold glue (specification Pafra AquaPal ® 9278 Premium) purchased in volume directly from Pafra.

It shows that ISG cold-glue costs are:

  • About 1/10th of wire costs when producing 16 page booklets
  • About 1/3rd of wire costs when producing 40 page booklets
  • Similar to wire costs when producing 120 page booklets
