Smart-binder Applications
Extended content labelsThe Smart-binder models SB-2 and SB-3 may be supplied to run in-line with a digitally-printed paper web or fed near-line from a roll-unwinder and web-cutter, at speeds up to 180 metres/min (590 feet/min). Alternatively the Smart-binder may be fed off-line from a sheet pile feeder at up to 400 sheets/min.
To produce Extended Content Label (ECL) booklets, using paper stock weights as low as 37 gsm, please refer to the Smart Label‑binder Introduction webpage, and the other Smart Label-binder webpages.
The Smart-binder model SB-2 produces wire-stitched (stapled) booklets up to 10mm (0.4") thick. Smart-binder model SB-3 includes IBIS's patented 'ISG' (Individual Sheet Gluing) technology that replaces staples with cold-glue 'dots' between each sheet to produce more attractive, stronger, flatter and easier-to-recycle booklets (but can still include wire-stitch heads if wire stapling is also required).
The extended model SB-X increases the maximum booklet spine length from 320mm to 457mm. The extended model SB-W increases the maximum book width to 273 mm 10¾". Model SB-XW combines includes both these max spine length and max book width modifications.
For the first time ever, both wire-stitched or glued books may now be produced from the same machine. In this way the Smart-binder provides a solution for multiple different book types and formats, with the option of a separately fed cover, sheet perforating, hole punching, loop stitching, etc.
