IBIS Smart-binder produces product manuals at high web speed, with 45 gsm paper

Applications such as product manuals for 'white goods' (washing machines, etc.) often require to be printed at high speed, in high volumes, on very lightweight paper stock to reduce the document cost and increase the maximum number of pages.

We have recently installed a number of new Smart-binder systems to produce such A5 user-manuals at printing sites in Europe.

An MB Prestige NET buckle folder (with lightweight paper modifications) is being used to buckle-fold each sheet in half before it enters the IBIS Smart-binder. This enables the system to run continuously and reliably at web speeds of 130 - 150 meters/min with a paper weight 45 gsm. The thin paper allows the booklet thickness to be varied on-the-run from 24pp to 196pp without having to adjust the wire stitch heads.
