New customized Smart-binder saddle-stitching solution for Fiserv USA

Fiserv is a global leader in payments and financial technology and has become a large producer of printed materials. Fiserv installed a customized Smart-binder system in the summer, 2019.

Dan Aiken, Business Process Engineer, Fiserv, comments as follows:

"Several years ago we developed a relationship with IBIS and based on that positive experience, we invited IBIS to propose a new finishing system in early 2019. Our need was to produce 5 ½ x 8 ½ saddle-stitched booklets from an 18” wide web with variable page counts to our facility in Stafford TX. We were looking for a fully automated solution without any intermediate sheet handling.

IBIS had an off-the-shelf solution which produced booklets in 8-page increments, however we required booklets to be produced in 4-page increments (booklets need to contain pages in steps of 4, 8, 12, and 16 pp …etc.). IBIS proposed a new customized solution to meet this challenge. This configuration allowed pairs of sheets to be delivered by the Tecnau web cutter side-by-side, then separated, adjusted for speed, changed direction by 90 degrees, and processed into in-line IBIS Smart-binder.

The system was developed and tested by IBIS at their UK headquarters, working in partnership with Tecnau. In the summer of 2019, the machine passed its pre-shipment trials with flying colours.

Following this, the line was installed at our Texas location in summer 2019. It is now successfully launched and meeting our expectations.

We continue to enjoy our great relationship with the IBIS team who were highly responsive in meeting our requirements and professional in their handling of this special project. From the initial meeting to the “Go-Live” support we could not have asked for a better partner. The IBIS Smart-binder is a durable unit which we expect will give us many years of production usage and we look forward to installing our next IBIS Smart-binder as our needs grow in future."
